About Natalie Thomson

Canberra Private Schools introduces Natalie Thomson in Parkville, for all your education and learning needs.

Learning the Suzuki way is a great way for young children to begin fostering their love of music. Children as young as 3 years old can benefit from this method. Parents are greatly encouraged to be part of the lessons so that they can be effective home teachers, and be equipped with ways to encourage and motivate their child. Families are encouraged to create musical environments in their homes, the simplest way to do this initially is to play the CD of Suzuki pieces. The child listens to these pieces everyday until they have memorised the works. Suzuki thought, just as all children successfully learn their own language so can they successfully learn to be musicians. It all depends on whether the child receives the correct modelling. Tuition begins firstly with the parent and teacher who meet to discuss their child and the Suzuki method. The parent and the student then come to observe me teaching, seeing other children learning is very motivating for the child. The lesson also serves as a model for them, so when the child comes to learn piano, the child will be confident as they will know what to expect. A relaxed, fun and nurturing environment is the best place for learning to occur. From this point, initial lessons begin by building the foundations for musical understanding. Practice sessions will be short. Then as the student's competence at the instrument increases the practice sessions will increase as will their ability to memorise more information. It was Suzuki's belief that ability breeds ability. Consider this method of musical education. Visit the official Australian web site to find out more information about the method.
