Taekwon-Do is the Korean art of self-defence and directly translates as 'The Art of Hand and Foot'. Like many martial arts, Taekwon-Do is steeped in history and roots that stretch back centuries.Taekwon-Do is, arguably, the most dynamic and academic martial art in the world, with a genuine ranking system, code of ethics, conduct, cultural discipline and promotion of health, well-being and personal safety. It is also the most popular of all martial arts world-wide.Taekwon-Do has many benefits socially, mentally and physically, including improved co-ordination, enhanced body awareness, increased flexibility and cardiovascular fitness, boosted self confidence, augmented social interaction and communication skills. Training sessions encourage cultural awareness, nurtures general well-being and a positive self-image, and offers the opportunity to progress and improve self-esteem through the belt grading system.In addition to these benefits, this truly dynamic art teaches and promotes the following tenets (life rules), courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.ITFA Rockhampton teaches ITF-style Taekwon-Do, which follows the syllabus laid down by the founder, General Choi Hong Hi, in the Taekwon-Do Encyclopedia. The syllabus includes pattern, step sparring, free sparring, destruction, terminology, self defence and moral culture.The ITFA is proud of its unrivalled lineage of instructors. Senior Master Andrew K H Rhee, the ITFA Founder, Chief Instructor & Examiner, is the eldest son of First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha (FGMR) who was the founder's 'Best Ever Taekwon-Do Student'. Senior Master Rhee was also assistant to the Taekwon-Do founder, General Choi Hong Hi, from 2000-2001, travelling with the general internationally and assisting in his teaching.ITFA Rockhampton operates under the instruction of Mr Evan Pritchard, IV Dan International Instructor and Grading Examiner. Mr Pritchard regularly trains under Senior Master Andrew K H Rhee, both in person and via Virtual Taekwon-do, the first of its kind for online Martial Arts Instruction.
